Why Should I Join?
Membership
in the League can lead to self-education, an understanding of community
problems, and the ability to act effectively on issues of public interest.
The League's purpose, its open membership, its independence from partisan politics, and its democratic procedures attract women and men of all backgrounds.
You'll meet the people who make things happen in your community, and you'll get "inside" in-depth information on the issues through League publications.
You'll make your voice heard in America's political process.
You'll help make your community, state, and country a better place to live.
How Do League Members Accomplish These Goals?
Register millions to vote.
Monitor government activities from town councils and school boards to the county legislature, the state legislatures and the U.S. Congress.
Teach
citizens about their rights and responsibilities, sponsor candidate debates
and public issues forums, inform through our distribution of nonpartisan
election information.
After study and consensus on selected subjects, take action by lobbying, letter writing, holding forums and public meetings, litigating and working with coalitions.
What Are Some of the League's Issues?
The League is currently engaged in an effort to do something about the distrust and hostility that dominate public debate in America by advocating for changes in the political process, including:
Campaign finance reform.
Getting voters to the polls, because the system won't change unless we all hold government accountable
and vote.
Educating citizens by giving them the knowledge and the tools they need to make a difference through our publications and meetings on a broad range of topics.
